How to Find Us.
Across the wrought iron Swing Bridge in the towns older quarters nestling beneath the brooding Gothic ruins of Whitby Abbey ,and the cliff top perched St.Mary’s Church, you’ll find New Way Ghaut.
Ghauts were common in the early days of the town, consisting usually of a narrow alley leading from a main street, the narrow cobbled end of Church Street in this instance, and ending at the waters edge.
Club Nights are held in the upstairs Function Room which overlooks the harbour, and the panoramic view over the river offers some of the finest views in Whitby.
Entrance to the Club is via New Way Ghaut and drinks are purchased in the downstairs Harbour Bar,and brought upstairsThe Friendship being a private club, folk club patrons to stay within the law have to become social members of the Rowing Club. Seeing that the fee is only £1 a year (usually payable on your first visit) no one complains as the prices of drinks are noticeably less than all the local hostelries. .
